Character Cities: Faith Community

Unite the Community and the Family

The faith community is crucial to the development of a community culture of character.

Encourage the Faith Community to Get Involved

The faith community can become involved with a community character emphasis in a variety of ways.

  • Support city officials who are trying to encourage good character among citizens.
  • Teach on the month's character quality during children's classes and in the main sessions.
  • Distribute character resources to families.
  • Feature the character quality of the month in other publications, and on church, mosque, or synagogue marquees.
  • Sponsor Character Community events by donating use of facilities, labor, food, childcare, etc.
  • Implement a character-training program with staff members.

Reinforce Character in the Family

The faith community is one sector where, in most cases, the whole family participates. A character emphasis in the faith community provides opportunity to unite the entire family around the character they are learning together.
